Within the frame of your registration you will be assigned two individual identification numbers that are the Applicant ID (Bewerber-ID, BID) and the Applicant Authentication Number (Bewerber-Authentifizierungs-Nummer, BAN). Afterwards, you may enter up to twelve choices of study (combination of course of study and higher education institution). Please note that fewer applications may be allowed per higher education institution. This is subject to the law of the respective German state and the law of higher education.
The online application is carried out after registration (depending on how it is requested by the individual higher education institution) either via the application portal of the higher education institution (= decentral application) or via the application portal of the dialogue-oriented service procedure (DoSV) (= central application).
The Applicant ID serves only for your identification within the application portal of the dialogue-oriented service procedure (DoSV), while you need the BAN for a decentral application via any portal of any higher education institution so an automatic data synchronization between the EDP systems of the higher education institution and Hochschulstart is ensured. BID and BAN thus facilitate a uniform handling of any of your applications via the application portal of the dialogue-oriented service procedure (DoSV) and the application portals of the higher education institutions.
